Professional Development + Upcoming Events

I accidentally left a few folks out of my 2021 Professional Development list. So today, it is my pleasure to highlight them, and point to some of their upcoming events.

Dunya McPherson
One of three main influences on my dance, honored teacher and treasured friend, Dunya entered the live-virtual world as part of the pandemic. It was delicious to be able to have these rich experiences (without traveling!) throughout 2021. Dunya’s beautiful new book Sojourn the Inner Heaven, focuses on practice (her work has deeply informed my own), and an upcoming workshop Sunday 2/6 1-3 EST on zoom. Info is here:

Paula Josa Jones
Paula is a stunning artist and human being. She is an SEP, Somatic Movement specialist, and choreographs horses. You will be hearing more about her. For much of 2020 and the first part of 2021, she presented a free virtual weekly session called “Finding Sanctuary in the Body.” I found it to be immensely helpful both in healing physical ills and opening my body and mind. I begged her to continue it as a paid class, and she is finally doing so! Class starts Feb 24. Info (on this and her other upcoming classes) is here:

Mary Bond
Mary is one of the most brilliant, kind, and dear folks I have ever encountered. I had the great pleasure and honor of being a demo for one of her body-reading webinars, and went on attend many of her 2020-21 presentations. Though they are pointed at bodyworkers, I found them to be invaluable for dancers. It was from Mary that I got inspired about using the ramii bones to initiate pelvic movement, which has changed my dance/posture in oh-so-wonderful ways. She is teaching a two-part workshop on the pelvis and legs on Jan 23 + 30. Info is here:

For myself, what’s going on right now is Bobby Style II–with ZILS on!
For the zil-averse, that section is only 10-15 mins long and is connected to our across the floor segment–so you can simply ignore the zils and focus on the traveling steps ; )

We’ve just completed Week 2. Week 3 is Jan 25, and then we have a two-week hiatus before weeks four and five. So there is now plenty of time to catch up on the recordings! Info is here: https://aliathabit.com/shop/#live

That’s it for now! Look out in the next week or so for a very special announcement ; )

Love and HAPPY NEW YEAR,
Alia
